So it's almost time for your session and your thinking of locations. Below are a few pointers to consider when location hunting in order to get the very best look for displaying your images in your home.

What style is your home decorated in? If the room in your home that you're planning to display your portraits in is decorated more rustic than choosing an urban location for your images is probably going to look out of place and just mess up your feng shui. So you would be better choosing something a bit more natural, or on someones farm or ranch. If your room is decorated in more of a modern style than urban or even studio style shots would best compliment it.
Consider how you or your family will dress when choosing a location. If your more a jeans and nice top kind of person than an elaborately decorated hotel or a formally decorated home are just going to look all wrong and your not likely to love your images in the end.

Think about who all is going to be photographed. Will there be small children or pets? When choosing a location with little ones or furry friends it's best to choose places that are not going to have a ton of distractions. Nothing is more stressful on not only the parent but the child or pet as well than constant distractions.

What about props? Some people just love the use of props. When props are small than most anywhere would be a good fit, but if you're wanting to use something large such as a vintage couch, bed, or some of those huge letters than places where the space is tight are not going to be a good match. Something else to consider is a lot of public places will not allow the use of large props due to the high traffic or because they don't want the grounds damaged.
What time does your session take place? If your planning an evening session in an urban area than consider the fact that it will most likely be bustling with activity. You will also need to consider times that some locations close to the public. Most parks are open until sundown however if you're looking at a b&b, museum, or other public building than they generally close their doors late in the afternoon/early in the evening making their grounds inaccessible to the public. If your planning a more midday session when the sun is at it's highest you're going to want to avoid locations such as open fields and would be better suited to find someplace with lots of shade. Not only do you want to avoid the eye squint but correcting harsh highlights and shadows can prove problematic.

If you just can't figure out what the right look is for you or your family than lifestyle sessions done right in your own home can be the best option. We would come to your house and take photos of your family in your own natural environment. These are beautiful and are sure to look great in your home because they match perfectly!
And finally, some locations charge an access fee for use. When choosing your location if you are trying to avoid the additional charge of an access fee than be sure to check and make sure that the location that you desire isn't going to impose one. It can be pretty embarrassing for both yourself and your photographer if approached and asked to leave because the fee wasn't paid.
